Chapter 2 From Hell to Heaven
Hanfeng and Ryan stood in the alley opposite the inn and no longer approached. If the caravan was unhappy, they would kill a few beggars, but no one would care. Anyway, after the Dongnuan Inn had finished the goods and furs, the caravan and mercenaries would go to the Makov Tavern to place goods.
"Hanfeng, look at the bearded man, the big man with a shield on his back, so handsome! It would be great if I could be a warrior, and I would no longer have to worry about eating, nor have others bullying us. I would just be a guard for any family or go hunting by myself, and I would never be hungry!" Ryan's eyes were filled with little stars, and he looked at the bearded man with longing.
"You said, if we go to learn from them, will they teach us?" Ryan's eyes rolled.
"Which mercenary would accept beggars as apprentices? If we go, we might be beaten to death." Hanfeng shook his head, pouted, and shrugged. He didn't have any hope for Ryan's thoughts.
"We are like this now, and we will starve to death sooner or later. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find food recently. When winter comes, the caravan will not come anymore. Where can we find food? Even mice are about to survive the winter." Ryan lowered his head helplessly.
"This..." Han Feng was speechless.
Half an hour later, the caravan had packed up their things, and the mercenaries followed the caravan to the Makov Tavern. The guys in the Moxi shop packed the dining table and secretly stuffed a few pieces of jerky into their pockets. Then they put a few plates of wine and dishes and the few leftover meat into the bucket. They carried the bucket out of the inn, and the beggars were watching.
The guy hummed disdainfully, turned a corner and walked into the alley next to the inn. All the beggars slowly gathered over. The guy poured out the leftovers from the bucket and took the bucket back.
The beggars rushed up, and several beggars grabbed the ground and stuffed them into their mouths, regardless of what they were. The food that was already pitiful was divided up immediately.
Hanfeng and Ryan were thin. As soon as Hanfeng squeezed in, nothing was left on the ground. Ryan was so quick that he grabbed several peanuts and broad beans that jumped to the side, as well as a small piece of jerky as the size of a fingernail, or minced meat, and then he saw that there was no chance, so he retreated.
However, the beggars in front of them were already about to start because of uneven distribution of the spoils. Seeing that Hanfeng had not grabbed anything, Ryan quickly pulled Hanfeng away.
"Huh! Fortunately, I'm quick, otherwise I won't be able to grab anything." Ryan and Hanfeng ran into another alley, Ryan clenched his fists tightly and gasped.
"I said, fortunately you ran fast, otherwise they would have snatched away such a thing. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything." Han Feng lowered his head and said apologetically.
"What does it matter? Mine is yours. We can barely eat it for two days. Haha. You said they had a fight." Ryan disagreed and continued to curse with gloating without waiting for Han Feng to answer, "It's best to kill him, hahaha!"
"Ryan, thank you." Han Feng lowered his head, his tone with a little touching touch.
"Low, you've been together for so many years, don't say that." Ryan waved his hand casually, looked at Han Feng, who was lowering his head, and gritted his teeth, "Han Feng, I've decided to go to the mercenary group to become a disciple. I no longer want to live such a life every day. I have to worry about food every day, whether it's life or death, I have to give it a try."
Hanfeng opened his mouth wide, and his black eyes were full of surprise. "Then I will go with you, and I will die together!" Hanfeng pulled Ryan's arm, his eyes firm.
"Hey... I'm kidding. Let's go back." Ryan looked at Hanfeng like this, pulled Hanfeng back.
The wind in the cold winter town at night is as cold as ever, blowing on people, like cutting you with a knife on their back. Fortunately, it has not snowed tonight. The bright moon hangs high and shines on the snow, which is particularly beautiful and charming, as bright and clean as a girl's skin.
At dawn, a figure suddenly walked out of the alley beside the street, which was supposed to be uninhabited.
Ryan tightly wrapped his torn jacket on his body, crossed his arms and hugged him on his chest, and walked towards Dongnuan Inn step by step. The caravan was not in a hurry to rush to the night. The snow wolf pack was the most active at night, and usually rested for one night and left the next morning before leaving.
"Changfeng, no matter what, I want to give it a try. If I succeed, I can take you with me. If it doesn't work, I may not die. Even if I die, you can save some food for those who eat alone, and you can live longer than the two of us." Ryan thought, while waiting in the alley next to the inn, hoping that the caravan could come out early.
The sun gradually rose, and the sunlight slowly covered the cold winter town. Ryan shook, and his strength also decreased little by little with the trembling. Ryan looked up at the slowly rising sun, as if he wanted to gain a little warmth and strength from it. This was the inn's sudden "squeak" sound that suddenly opened.
"Ah! Praise the Sun God, today is a good weather. It seems that our return journey will be very smooth. I will enjoy it when I go back! Dear, the old man in the middle of the winter city, is waiting for the great demon archer Hughes to return!" The third man in the mercenary group opened the door. The third man in the love was named Hughes. Hughes squinted his eyes and looked at the sun, tidied up his clothes, and jumped out of the threshold first.
Suddenly, Hughes shouted alertly to the left: "Who!" The people behind him were alert in an instant, putting their hands on the weapons, and could give people a fatal blow at any time.
"Ah...I, I am..." Ryan saw someone coming out. He had just taken a step, but before he could express his intention, he was shocked by Hughes' shout, and was so scared that he couldn't even speak smoothly.
"What are you? Why are you doing sneakily at the door?" The third brother Hughes breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that he was a thin and torn child. He continued to ask. Several people came out one after another, and several people were alerting the surroundings, while the rest were staring at Ryan.
Ryan saw the big man holding a knife in his right hand and a shield in his left hand. His eyes lit up. Suddenly, there was no idea where the strength came from. He quickly ran to the big man like a sudden enlightenment and knelt down, "Uncle! I hope you teach me martial arts. I want to become stronger, I want to survive." After that, he began to kowtow "dongdongdongdong".
When the big man was looking at Ryan in a daze, the expression on his face seemed to be wondering when he had seen this kid.
"Mori, do you know him?" Old Zheng, who had a national face, turned his face and frowned at the big man holding a big knife.
"I don't know you, I've never seen you." Mori, a strong man holding a big knife, frowned and thought for a while, and shook his head.
"I am an orphan in the town. I want to become a warrior like an uncle. I can endure hardships. I hope the uncle teaches me that I want to become stronger and I don't want to be a beggar anymore." Ryan explained while kowtowing, afraid that Mori would refuse.
"Boy, I'm sorry, I haven't even started my training, so I can't teach you." Morri continued to shake his head.
Ryan felt desperate, his eyes turned black, as if he was pinched to his throat, and a feeling of suffocation that he had never felt before came to his leisurely life.
Hughes was about to speak to drive people away, but Lao Zheng suddenly looked at Ryan's hands and asked, "How old are you? When did you come?"
"I don't know how old I am. Maybe I'm eleven or twelve. I'll come before dawn." Ryan looked at Lao Zheng with empty eyes, not understanding why he asked these questions...
"If you want to learn martial arts and become stronger, it is not just about being a warrior. I see the archer's archery skills or the thief's skills, which are very suitable for you. As for other abilities, it depends on whether you have talent. Are you willing to learn it?" Lao Zheng stared at Ryan's arms and hands in a daze, and then asked Ryan with a smile.
"What do you mean? Willing to take me in?" Ryan asked uncertainly.
"Yeah, it's not bad." Lao Zheng withdrew his gaze and smiled gently.
Ryan opened his mouth wide, as if he couldn't believe it, and was so happy that he couldn't speak. After a while, he nodded desperately as if he was injected with chicken blood. "It feels so good to go from hell to heaven."
"Get up, go back to the city with us later. Then we will see what you are suitable for learning, and then arrange for you. You can follow Mory first." Lao Zheng turned around and walked back. Of course, Hughes also noticed Lao Zheng's strangeness and stared at Ryan's hands and looked at him hard.
"Uncle, I have a friend who grew up with me since I was a child. He is very clever. Can you... can you take him with me?" Ryan knelt on the ground and saw that the old man was about to leave. He hesitated for a moment and said hurriedly.
"Well, bring it here first for me to see. It may not be certain whether it is taken away or not. It depends on his fortune. We are not doing good deeds." Lao Zheng thought for a while and said, "How many orphans are there in your town, the same size as you? You can bring it all for me to see."
"Thank you uncle! Thank you uncle! He is the only orphan in the town who is almost the same as me. I'll bring him here now." Ryan kowtowed twice again happily, hurriedly got up from the ground, got into the alley and ran home.
