Five hundred and ninetieth chapters the moon (six)

The program that Changong TV is currently broadcasting is called "Moon Life", which is a documentary describing the life of astronauts at Changong Space Station and Guanghan Palace Base.

Although the picture has been edited and some sensitive areas are covered with ancestral mosaics, Hawke and Wade are still enjoyable to watch.

Although the two sides are in a hostile relationship, as colleagues, you can still see a lot of things.

In terms of living facilities, the living facilities of Guanghan Palace Base and Changong Space Station are very comprehensive and even a bit luxurious.

At least Hawk and the others were very envious. Although there were three living cabins in their living cabins, there was actually only one and a half cabins in which the living area could be moved. The internal volume of the living area was only 37.2 cubic meters, making it a very narrow residence.

The differences between the two sides in the relevant materials of the capsule are quite large. NASA's old-fashioned space capsule, in the space capsule of the Greater China, is at least 3 to 5 times the strength of the other party, and the internal volume is about 1.3 to 1.5 times.

It seems that there are only 8 living cabins at the Guanghan Palace Base, but in fact, the internal volume of the living area of the Guanghan Palace Base reaches 472 cubic meters, about 12 times that of Qianshiyi 1.

The Guanghan Palace Base currently houses 7 astronauts, with an average of 67 cubic meters; there are only 2 astronauts in Outpost 1, with an average of 18.6 cubic meters.

The difference between the quality of life between the two sides is very obvious. Outpost 1 cannot even take a bath. If Hawke and Wade had not used the experimental cabin, it would have been more difficult for life as a temporary lounge.

However, NASA was also very helpless. It was not that they did not want to equip complete living facilities, but that the economy did not allow it. In addition, the launch of two new Saturn V rockets failed, resulting in the original 115-ton 8 cabin design, but in the end, two cabins were missing.

Next, the next batch of space capsules are planned to be launched in September this year.

But Hawke and Wade were a little worried that their supplies could only last about 136 days. If the support launch failed in September, they could only wait for October or November.

The two of them could only pray in their hearts, hoping that everything would go well, and they did not want to starve to death on the moon.

After the broadcast of the Moon Life program, the next step is "Moon Frontier". This program mainly talks about experiments and planning.

Of course, since it is broadcast as a TV program, the content must have been reviewed and screened, and there will be no technical leaks.

For example, the Hongwan geological exploration is currently being played, and the project outpost 1 is also being done, and the discoveries between the two sides are similar.

However, Qianshao 1 does not carry large drilling equipment, and can only collect lunar soil and lunar rock on the ground. Unlike the Guanghan Palace base, it can drill hundreds of meters underground.

On the show.

Shi Keji pointed to rows of stratigraphic samples and introduced the audience the specific situation from 240 meters above the surface of Hongwan.

"We found that in the location of the No. 1 drill hole, there were ice crystals with a content of about 1.3% to 4.2% in the rock and soil layer 5 to 27 meters underground, which shows that there is a layer of permafrost in the underground rock layer of the moon."

Shi Keji continued: "And in the rock formation 56 to 84 meters underground, trace amounts of liquid water were found."

Through geological exploration, Guanghan Palace Base further understands the situation underground in Hongwan.

"In the strata of 132 to 186 meters underground, we found the existence of liquid water layers, and the abundance of these groundwaters is not much different from the calculations we expected."

Seeing Shi Keji pick up a bottle of lunar groundwater, Hawke said enviously: "They don't need to transport water from Blue Star in the future. The gap is getting bigger and bigger. Do we really have a chance to turn the tables?"

"Who knows? This is not a question we should care about. Anyway, those men will not give in easily." Wade replied with his hands spreading out.

Hawke also looked depressed and took out his tablet to record some data as a reference for future drilling.

Time passed little by little, and after watching a science fiction short film, the two of them got into the sleeping bag and started to rest.

On the other side.

In the base of Guanghan Palace.

Shi Keji and another astronaut were driving an electric off-road vehicle and slowly exploring the surroundings of the base. At this time, the two were already 12 kilometers away from the base.

This is the eighth time that the two of them have conducted surface exploration, and they have conducted surface exploration on average once or twice a month. At present, they have mapped the area with a radius of 12 to 26 kilometers.

Although there are geological remote sensing satellites, remote sensing satellites are not omnipotent and often require manual assistance in exploration.

The searchlights of the electric off-road vehicle illuminate the ground in front of it. Although the moon sea is mainly plains, it does not mean that the terrain is flat.

Dunes, ravines, small craters are everywhere, and there are very dangerous quicksand areas here.

The reason for the formation of the quicksand area is that there are cracks underground and the surface is covered by lunar soil, which looks similar to ordinary ground. Once the vehicle passing by above exceeds the bearing capacity of the quicksand, sudden sinking may occur.

Before, Shi Keji had just been in the sixth surface exploration, when an electric off-road vehicle passed through the quicksand area, it fell directly.

Fortunately, when the off-road vehicle had an emergency ejection system, the two people were successfully ejected, and the moon's low gravity and the booster of the exoskeleton spacesuit returned to the ground little by little.

Obviously, they lost an off-road vehicle, but the two of them were finally in danger.

After re-exploring the quicksand area, Shi Keji was worried about himself. The quicksand area is about 18.4 kilometers away, and it is a hollow formed by an underground fault. The deepest location is 53 meters and the average depth is 27 meters.

However, it was a blessing in disguise. They found that there was a rare lead-zinc ore in this strata. Although the reserves after exploration were only 11 to 15,000 tons of lead and 2 to 4,000 tons of zinc.

However, lead-zinc ore is a relatively rare mineral on the moon because lead-zinc is a volatile element, while the rock formations on the surface of the moon lack volatile elements, iron-philic elements, and alkali metals, which are enriched for refractory elements.

The so-called volatile elements refer to rubidium, lead, bismuth, arsenic, mercury, copper, cadmium, barium, etc.; while iron-philic elements refer to gold, silver, platinum, etc.

These elements are relatively rare and poor elements in the rock and soil layer on the surface of the moon.

Refractory elements refer to thorium, cobalt, chromium and rare earth elements. These elements have relatively high relative abundance on the moon's surface and are rich elements.

This lead-zinc ore discovered accidentally was caused by the folds and ridges of the moon's crust movement, and the impact of the meteorites formed Hongwan, which caused this small ore vein to appear in the surface rock formation.

Lead-zinc ore plays a very important role in lunar bases. For example, in terms of radiation protection, lead alloy plates are the last suitable material.

At present, Blue Star's Lunar Materials Institute is designing a processing chamber, changing to use foam silicon steel as a skeleton, and then pressing lead material to form composite sheets.

The reason why lead plates are arranged is mainly to protect solar wind, neutron flow, proton flow, etc.

Although the Guanghan Palace base has a magnetic cage protection system, as a base in a dangerous environment, it is best not to put the chips in a single system.

In case there is a problem with the magnetic cage protection system and it happens to encounter a solar storm, many equipment on the base may be affected.

This is why NASA's Outpost 1 capsule is overweight because they add a layer of lead plate to enhance the capsule's ability to resist solar storms.

The Guanghan Palace Base, which is skilled and brave, adopts a magnetic cage solution, and its capsule shell has a thickness of only about 0.3 to 0.8 cm.

Of course, if lead-zinc ore is not found, the Space Administration actually has a backup plan, that is, the cabin covering soil plan.
