Chapter 23 The Unspeakable Truth of History (1)

Chen Dao held the telescope and clearly saw that the Stuka dive bomber roared as usual, hitting bombs one by one on the roof of the municipal building occupied by the Polish army.

The 500-kilogram aviation bomb broke through the roof under the action of inertia and drilled into the inside of the building, and was then detonated by a delayed fuse.

The first round of air strikes demolished the municipal building as many as three floors, and the two floors below were also shaky. Stuka of the First Aviation Regiment did not give the Poles a chance to escape, and the second round of bomb drops followed one after another.

Chen Dao stood with one leg on his back on the wall. He finally stood firm in the "earthquake" caused by the explosion. Then he saw that the municipal building was covered with gray smoke and dust.

The smoke and dust dissipated, and the original five-story building was only a pile of rubble about two stories high. Only the tenacious flagpole in the square in front of the building declared that this was once the municipal building of Kutenno.

It was terrifying. Chen Dao stared at the rubble like a hill and said in his heart that this was only the power of a 500-kilogram bomb. Compared with this powerful bomb, the 37mm anti-tank gun and 75mm infantry gun he used were completely worth mentioning.

If it were a 1,000 kilogram bomb, what would it be when the 1,500 kilogram bomb exploded? It was not something that infantrymen could hide by lying on the ground or hiding into foxgloves.

The legendary killer weapon - what will it look like when the atomic bomb explodes? What method should be used to survive the explosion? The more Chen Dao thought about it, the heavier it was in his heart, and there was no joy to eliminate the enemy at all.

After the mission was completed, the first aviation regiment's fleet hovered in the air and flew away from the battlefield proudly.

"Long live the German Air Force, Major, you..." The Army Captain opened his arms excitedly to hug Chen Dao, but found that Chen Dao's face was gloomy and he stood there with his arm holding the wall with one leg.

"Are you injured?" the captain asked, staring at Chen Dao's shrinking right leg. He thought Chen Dao's face looked ugly and was enduring the pain of the wound.

"I was hit by the Polish sniper's jump, and I've dealt with it." Chen Dao turned around and said listlessly.

"Major, you should go and rest, so as not to leave any sequelae. This should be the most important resistance base for the Poles. After destroying this place, they won't be able to resist for long."

"Okay." Chen Dao's right leg gently landed on the ground and moved his movements. He found that the pain was not so severe, so he limped to the temporary wounded shelter with the help of the army captain.

In the shelter, Chen Dao gently put his bandaged right calf on a backrest chair, lying on another backrest chair with his head in his hands, falling into deep thought.

If the war with the United States cannot be avoided in the future, how can we crack the US's overwhelming aircraft and sea tactics? The power of aviation bombs cannot be compared even by tigers and tiger king tanks, let alone the flesh and blood of infantrymen.

Chen Dao took out his notebook and pencil from his bag and wrote two words: air supremacy, air defense firepower.

After lit a cigarette, Chen Dao took a few sips and wrote a big line of words on his notebook: Create a killer weapon as soon as possible.

Putting away the notebook and pencil, Chen Dao's expression calmed down slightly, and he looked around at the wounded soldiers in the shelter. The seven or eight wounded soldiers placed in his room were all lightly injured, most of whom were injured by bullets or shells.

Looking around the room, Chen Dao saw that all the wounded except him were Army and there was no one he knew. After gently moving his right leg, Chen Dao found that the pain in his right leg had almost disappeared, so he put his injured right leg into his boots. Chen Dao stood up with a chair and walked around the room for a few steps. He found that the pain in his right leg no longer affected his walking.

Putting on the steel helmet, Chen Dao greeted a medical soldier and prepared to leave. He walked to the gate of the shelter and rushed into three paratroopers. The leading paratrooper stared at the front with red eyes and opened the way, while the two paratroopers behind him were carrying a stretcher.

A paratrooper captain lay on the stretcher. The captain's uniform was covered with holes and blood. What was even more shocking was that the part below the knee of the captain's right leg had disappeared. The white bones and blue blood vessels were exposed in front of Chen Dao's eyes, and the blood stained the stretcher red.

Chen Dao hurriedly made way and followed the paratroopers into the shelter. After the medical soldiers took over the injured paratrooper captain, Chen Dao stood behind the three paratroopers, held one of the paratroopers' shoulders and asked, "Corporal Steiner, how did Captain Chopin get injured?"

The three paratroopers were startled and turned around and saw that it was Chen Dao. They saluted Chen Dao together. Corporal Steiner wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and said, "We met the Polish tank, and the captain's right leg was interrupted by the machine gun on the tank."

"Damn the tank." Chen Dao cursed with a stiff expression. Captain Chopin was the company commander of the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Aviation Division and one of the few officers Chen Dao knew in the 7th Aviation Division.

"We used anti-tank guns to kill that tank. The Poles crawled out of the tank and wanted to escape, but they were all killed by us." Corporal Steiner said.

"Good job," Chen Dao said.

"Where are you going next? Wait for Captain Chopin here?" Chen Dao took out a cigarette and sent one to each of the three people who were in a state of disgrace.

"We are going to return to the team, Major, why are you here?" Corporal Steiner lit a cigarette with the lighter handed over by Chen Dao, took a sip and asked.

"I suffered a little bit of a minor injury on my leg. Come and bandage it. General Student and I said that we would go back to report today. Let's go together." Chen Dao left the shelter with a cigarette in his mouth and three paratroopers.

As the Army Captain said, the Municipal Building was one of the most important strongholds of the Polish army in the city of Kutno. After the Polish army was eliminated there, the German army controlled the entire city of Kutno in less than two hours.

On the first floor of a three-story building with a relatively complete three-story building, here is the temporary battalion of the 2nd Paratroopers Battalion. Chen Dao sat on a chair next to the window and asked, "Major Schubert, how many people do you think the city of Kutno is about?"

Major Schubert replied: "This city is not big, I estimate there are 30,000 to 40,000 people."

Chen Dao nodded and said, "It's almost the same as what I guess." As he said that, Chen Dao recorded the numbers of 30,000 to 40,000 people in his notebook.

"What are you thinking?" Major Schubert asked when he saw Chen Dao writing quickly in his notebook and showed a thoughtful look from time to time.

"I was wondering, what if we encountered a city with a population of more than one million and a large number of defenders equipped with tanks and snipers? For example, Warsaw." Chen Dao looked up and stared at Major Schubert.

Hearing Chen Dao's words, Major Schubert also began to ponder.

In the evening, after handing over the position to the Army, Major Chen Dao and Major Schubert led the remaining troops of the 2nd Paratrooper Battalion to withdraw from the city of Cootno.

In the southwest suburbs of Kutno City, after the 2nd and 1st and 3rd Battalions reunited, Chen Dao met Student again.

Student stood in front of Chen Dao, looked at Chen Dao expressionlessly for a while and said, "Major Rosen, your position is really erratic. I didn't expect you to appear here."

"General, I said I would return to the team today. I have always kept my promise." Chen Dao said.

"I promised Marshal Gore to send you back to Berlin today, but it's dark now, and the plane's take-off and landing at night cannot guarantee safety. I can only postpone it until tomorrow to send you back to Berlin. Now, in Marshal Gore's eyes, I must be a person who does not keep my promise. Do you have anything to say about this?"

"General, this is my suggestion. Since you have broken your promise, you can just go against it to the end. I will go back until we occupy Warsaw." Chen Dao said disapprovingly.

"That's impossible. The plane has been waiting for you all day long. You will leave tomorrow morning." Student waved his hand, and the two paratroopers stood next to Chen Dao, one left and one right.

Chen Dao turned his head and looked at the two big-sleeved paratroopers beside him, frowned and asked, "General Student, what do you mean?"

"Although this city has been occupied, there are still sporadic Poles resisting. They will be responsible for protecting your safety until you leave safely tomorrow dawn." Student said.

"Are you going to monitor me?" Chen Dao said with a glaring at Student.

"No, I'm protecting you." Student said with a tit-for-tat stare at Chen Dao.

"I have arranged a place for you. Go back and rest. Remember not to run around."

The man was under the short eaves and had to bow his head. Chen Dao, who was single and lonely, had to obey.

After dinner, Chen Dao lay in the tent toss and turns and couldn't sleep. He looked at his watch and found that it was only 8 o'clock in the evening, and he lit a cigarette. Chen Dao walked out of the tent with the cigarette in his mouth.

The two paratroopers standing on the left and right at the entrance of the tent looked at Chen Dao with four eyes in unison.

"Major, where are you going?" asked a paratrooper.

"Who of you can use grenades?" Chen Dao asked back.

The two paratroopers were stunned, but they didn't expect Chen Dao to ask such a question. After a moment, the two came to their senses and replied that they would use grenades.

"It's still early, let's find a secluded place and teach me how to use grenades." Chen Dao said.

"Major, if you want to learn how to use grenades, it is best to wait until dawn tomorrow, which is more dangerous at night." A paratrooper dissuaded.

"I'm leaving tomorrow as soon as the day begins. I can't sleep now. Learn how to use grenades to kill time." Chen Dao insisted.

Seeing that Chen Dao did not give in, the two paratroopers had to ask for advice from Student. Not long after, the paratrooper who went to ask for advice from Student came back with two other paratroopers. One of the two paratroopers later was a sergeant.

"The general agreed, let's go find a secluded place together." The paratrooper sergeant said.

Student's plan was that as long as the "brother-in-law" could get on the plane and leave on time tomorrow morning, he would do whatever he could tonight. In order to prevent the "brother-in-law" from doing any tricks, he specially sent two paratroopers to take care of Chen Dao.

Four paratroopers carried four lights, three shovels and Chen Dao to find a flat field.

Under the command of the sergeant, three paratroopers dug a concave-shaped foxglove pit on the soft land, and the paratroopers then began to teach.

As a modest and studious bandit, Chen Dao learned to use Mauser 98K rifle, MP38 submachine gun, 37mm anti-tank gun and 75mm infantry gun in the battle with him in recent days, but he did not learn to use grenades.

In Chen Dao's eyes, grenades seem simple but are actually difficult to use, and they may even blow up their own people, so they have never studied. Thinking that they will take the opportunity to leave tomorrow morning, and the last night in Poland cannot be wasted, so they remembered to learn how to use grenades.

Under the guidance of the paratrooper sergeant, Chen Dao soon learned that there are two types of grenades commonly used by paratroopers, one is the M24 long-handled grenade and the other is the M39 oval grenade. The fuses of the two grenades are 4-5 seconds.

The paratroopers placed two lights 30 meters away from the foxglove as reference objects. Under the guidance of the paratrooper sergeant, Chen Dao threw out five long-handled grenades in a row, all of which fell near the two lights.

A paratrooper ran over and picked up the five grenades without strings, and Chen Dao immediately began to practice live ammunition.

Standing by the fox pit, Chen Dao imitated the paratrooper's appearance and unscrewed the lid under the long-handled grenade, took out the lead, put his little finger on the ring of the lead, and then threw the grenade with white smoke into the fox pit, then jumped to the side and lie down on the ground.

With a "boom", a ball of fire broke out from the fox pit.

Chen Dao and the four paratroopers stood up, patted the soil on their bodies, and walked to the foxglove.

The paratrooper said: "It's like this when throwing at close range. It's relatively simple. Let's do long-range bomb drops."

Chen Dao was still immersed in the excitement of successfully detonating live ammunition just now. This bombing gave him a feeling of setting off firecrackers during the Chinese New Year. With this excitement, Chen Dao successfully completed three long-distance live ammunition throws.

Lying on the ground and seeing the fire and loud noises coming from afar, Chen Daoxin said that this bandit learned how to use grenades so quickly, and I am indeed a genius in the bandit world.

Having a preliminary understanding of the usage of long-handled grenades, Chen Dao planned to learn how to use oval grenades in one go.

After the paratrooper briefly introduced the usage of oval grenades, Chen Dao also threw a few grenades without strings. After comparison, Chen Dao found that oval grenades were lighter than long-handled grenades and were not easy to exert force. The throwing distance was obviously closer than long-handled grenades.

Familiar with the feel of the oval grenade, Chen Dao started a live-fire exercise. After pulling down the fuse, Chen Dao stood outside the fax pit and threw the oval grenade in his hand into the fax pit. Then he fell to the ground. With a "boom", the familiar flames flew out of the fax pit.

After doing this three more times, Chen Dao was basically familiar with the use of oval grenades and began to practice long-distance throwing.

Because the oval grenade feels not as good as the long-handled grenade, Chen Dao puts all his strength into throwing every time he throws it, making several perfect bomb drops.

"Major, this is basically the use of grenades. You have done it well. There are also cluster grenades to use, but we lack equipment, so we will practice again in the future if we have the chance." said the paratrooper.

"Thank you so much today." Chen Dao threw an oval grenade with his right hand, and then said, "I have the last one left here. After throwing this, we will go back."

After saying that, Chen Dao held the grenade in his hand, moved his shoulders and pulled down the fuse.

With his arm swing, Chen Dao was about to throw out the grenade, but suddenly a sharp pain came from his right calf. Chen Dao's right leg weakened and fell to the ground. When his right hand relaxed, the grenade ran out of his hand and rolled to the ground. He stopped four or five meters away in front of Chen Dao, and hissing and white smoke was emitting.

"Lying down." The paratrooper sergeant standing behind Chen Dao shouted and jumped into the foxglove, then reached out and pulled Chen Dao, who was kneeling on one knee next to him, into the foxglove...

With a "boom", a fire rose into the sky outside the fox pit.
