Chapter 28 Treaty of Alliance

This peace talk was really a world of ice and fire for Philip IV. At the beginning, when His Majesty the Emperor of the Ming Empire asked him to meet in person in Valencia, he was already very upset, especially when he saw Joao IV and Schvira, his mood could be said to have dropped to freezing point directly.

However, as the peace talks deepened, his heart became more and more intense. Even later, he no longer cared about Portugal's independence and was only thinking about alliances. Why is this?

The reason why he thought so was not surprising at all. The problem that Spain is facing now is not the problem of Portugal's independence, but the endless threat of war against the Habsburg Alliance and the dilemma of empty and empty treasury. Zhu Cijiu saw these points and dared to go to Europe for mediation in person. If he was not sure, it would not be mediation. Philip IV might turn against each other in minutes!

Now Philip IV's attitude has indeed made a 180-degree turn, and the atmosphere of the tripartite peace talks is naturally becoming more and more harmonious. After nearly a day of negotiations, the three parties finally formulated and signed the famous "Valencia Alliance Treaty", which was a military and economic alliance with the Ming Empire, the Kingdom of Spain and the Kingdom of Portugal as the core was officially formed.

In terms of economy, the treaty stipulates that the local, colonies and vassal states of the Three Kingdoms are fully open to merchants of the Three Kingdoms, and merchants of the Three Kingdoms can trade freely in any area under the jurisdiction of the Three Kingdoms; the state-owned companies of the Three Kingdoms cooperate fully, give priority to purchasing the other party's raw materials and goods, and regularly organize exchanges and learning activities to coordinate the three parties' commercial activities around the world to avoid disputes and cooperate in development.

In terms of military affairs, the treaty first stipulates that any country declares war on any country of the three countries is regarded as a declaration of war against the three countries at the same time, and the three countries have an obligation to assist allies in fighting against enemy countries.

The treaty also made detailed plans for the Nordic military operation:

Spain will send 40,000 troops to station Dunkirk and Calais respectively, and send an invincible fleet to block the Strait of Dover, and will not allow any enemy ships to pass!

Portugal will send 20,000 troops to station Dover and be responsible for the supply of food and grass for the troops stationed in Dover, Dunkirk and Calais.

The Ming Empire will send the North Sea Fleet to transport 100,000 laborers to build twelve bastions in Dunkirk, Calais and Dover, and provide 3,600 artillery guns to build a long-range firepower network for the bastion.

The treaty also planned the colonies of the three countries:

Spain will make every effort to develop American colonies, while Luzon, in the Far East, sold it to the Ming Empire according to the original arms procurement contract to compensate for the goods of 100 super battleships. Spain will withdraw from the Far East and no longer develop colonies in the Far East.

Portugal will make every effort to develop African colonies, and the colonies in the Americas and the Far East remain basically unchanged. At the same time, it promises not to develop colonies in the Americas and the Far East. Moreover, the colonial strongholds between Luzon and Batavia will be handed over to the Ming Empire to facilitate the Ming Empire to attack Batavia.

The Ming Empire would make every effort to develop the Far Eastern colonies, and at the same time promised to send fleets to assist Spain and Portugal in defeating colonial rivals in the Americas and Africa at the appropriate time.

The treaty also proposed a plan to jointly build the Eurasian canal:

After the end of the Far East battle against the anti-Habsburg Alliance, the Ming Empire and Portugal will send troops to occupy the junction between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, and then the Ming Empire will provide labor, and Spain and Portugal will provide food and grass to jointly dig a Grand Canal connecting the Mediterranean and the Red Sea!

After the canal is built, the three countries will jointly operate it and charge tolls to all the ships to and from, and the tolls collected by the three countries will be equally divided.

In the end, the three countries also made a promise to advance and retreat together in military terms and never sign a ceasefire agreement with the enemy country alone!

After the signing of the Valencian Alliance Treaty, the happiest person was Philip IV. First of all, he didn't have to worry about the battle with the anti-Habsburg Alliance. According to the plan of His Majesty the Emperor of the Ming Empire, he would send fleets and laborers to start building the bastion from Dunkirk. Three months later, the twelve bastions in Dunkirk, Calais and Dover will be completed!

Each city has four connected bastions, each bastion is stationed at 5,000 people, and is equipped with 300 most advanced howitzers from the Ming Empire. What is this concept?

You should know that due to the large firepower points and many shooting dead corners, and the height advantage can increase the range of artillery, it is generally difficult for the enemy to break through ten times. In other words, this steel defense line can withstand the attack of at least 200,000 troops. Can the Anti-Habsburg Alliance gather more than 200,000 troops in one direction?

France has this ability, but the Spanish army on the border between the West and France is not vegetarian. They will never dare to do their best to attack Calais, so the direction of Calais is safe.

As for the Netherlands, his total strength is less than 200,000. Of course, if Denmark and Sweden are added, he can also raise 200,000 troops, but Denmark and Sweden will never dare to do their best to help the Netherlands, because they have to face the Holy Roman Empire, so Dunkirk is safe.

As for the UK, it would be good if they could have a hundred thousand troops, so Dover was safe.

In other words, as long as Dunkirk, Calais and Dover’s twelve bastions are built, the anti-Habsburg alliance will be crying. The Spanish Invincible Fleet relies on the bastions of three cities, and that is truly invincible. As long as the Dover Strait is blocked and countries along the North Sea want to go out, they will have to detour the ice sea further north. Can they bear it?

They couldn't stand it and couldn't beat it, so they had to choose to negotiate in the end. By that time, hehe......

Not only do you need to worry about the battle with the anti-Habsburg Alliance, but you need to worry about the money. Just follow the development ideas of the Ming Empire, at most five years, the annual income of the Spanish royal family can exceed 100 million taels of silver. Coupled with the income of the colonies and the income of the Asia-Europe Grand Canal, will Spain still be short of money? Philip IV was so smiling that he could hardly close his mouth!

In fact, Zhu Cijiu was even happier than Philip IV. Building twelve bastions was simply too simple for him. The personnel were all ready-made. You should know that the 500,000 prisoners of the peasant uprising army had the experience of building more than 20 bastions.

Of course, the twelve basins do not need to bring 500,000 people over. Besides, the labor service of the 500,000 prisoners is almost over. Zhu Cijing originally planned to put them all back to their hometowns, allocate land to them, and let them live again, but among the 500,000 prisoners, many people envy the treatment of the regular legion of the Ming Empire and want to join the regular legion!

This is naturally impossible. They have a precedent for rebellion. It is too unsafe to let them join the regular legion. In the end, Zhu Cijing simply decided to select 100,000 strong laborers from it to form a construction legion, which specializes in building railways and cities, without fighting, and still gives the third-class legion treatment!

The construction ability of the construction army composed of 100,000 strong laborers can be imagined. It is not like drinking porridge to build twelve prisms within one month. Once the defense lines of Dunkirk, Calais and Dover are completed, the anti-Habsburg alliance will not only cause trouble for him, but contact and going out will become a big problem!

Once the great powers of the anti-Habsburg alliance were blocked in Northern Europe by Spain, the Ming Dynasty could let go of the Mughal Empire and start a fight. It would not be impossible to take Batavia by the way. By that time, the entire Far East would become the territory of the Ming Dynasty!
